ESBN Science Symposium: The Role of Science in Creating ES and Biodiversity Markets

Wednesday, November 21st to Wednesday, November 21st
Location: Lister Centre (Maple Leaf Room) 11613 87 Ave NW Edmonton, AB T6G 2H6

Ecosystem services and biodiversity (ESB) markets are a novel approach to achieve conservation and environmental goals. ESB markets provide new business opportunities or income streams, for example, agricultural producers could sell improved water quality, or pollination services.

Different regions in Alberta are undergoing rapid change related to urban development, energy, agriculture, forestry and transportation. Science is needed to assess current and future changes in human footprint and their consequences on biodiversity and ecosystem services.

This symposium explores the interface between science and policy that will enable the creation of markets for ecosystem services and biodiversity.
